Joyful F.A.R.M.S. (Farming, Agriculture, Resources, Management Systems)
is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit cooperative of information, founded in Newton, Alabama, in January 2022. Led by Belinda Thomas, a passionate farmer and advocate for underserved communities, and Donna George, an urban organic farmer focused on sustainable agriculture, Joyful F.A.R.M.S. was born from a shared vision: to empower new and beginning farmers, restore generational wealth, and reconnect people to the land.
Our organization is built on the belief that farming can uplift communities and create lasting change. With a diverse board of directors dedicated to education and advocacy, we are committed to supporting farmers from traditionally underserved backgrounds—including minorities, veterans, women, and people with disabilities—through mentorship, resources, and sustainable practices.
At Joyful F.A.R.M.S., we offer:
• Farming: Hands-on education for aspiring farmers, emphasizing outreach to underserved groups.
• Agriculture: Mentorship and training on soil cultivation, crop production, and animal husbandry.
• Resources: Access to valuable networks, including USDA, FSA, NRCS, agricultural banks, and insurance agencies.
• Management: One-on-one consultations to help farmers manage their operations effectively.
• Systems: Programs designed to guide farmers through business planning, farm loans, legal assistance, workshops, and mentorship.
Together, we aim to build stronger communities by equipping the next generation of farmers with the knowledge, tools, and support they need to thrive. At Joyful F.A.R.M.S., farming is not just a practice—it’s a way to reclaim opportunities, nurture the earth, and grow a joyful future.
